LITERATURE AND WRITING

The Online Literacy Resources page can be navigated by your choice of literacy topics or skills using the labeled books on the left side of the page.  Publishing Student Work online, Reference Tools, and Writing Contests will be especially interesting to GATE students.

Writing with Writers lessons on Scholastic.com.  Also, if you want to have opportunities to talk to your favorite authors online. You'll also find a lot of great information about your favorite authors.

 

CREATIVITY

Cartoons  Kids write, read and tell stories by creating comic strips online, then printing or e-mailing them to friends or relatives. 

Program a video  Create movies, music and video games at Scratch, developed by MIT Media Lab members. 

Music   On Crank It Up!, kids can compose and record multilayered rhythms using pots, pans, wooden spoons and even the computer keyboard to create a masterpiece.

Math Challenge  A website dedicated to the puzzling world of mathematics

Smithsonian, National Air and Space Museum  Learn by doing! A variety of online activities test your knowledge and demonstrate the principles of aviation and spaceflight.

Scholastic.com (Families, Kids, Teachers, Librarians) You will be able to find answers and visit with experts.

PBS  (Also visit the Kid's Site, Parent's Site, and Teacher's Site)

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Center Index of the Animation Series.  An index of fascinating animations created by NASA scientists in an effort to visualize collected data.
The National Wildlife Foundation sponsors a kids' site that provides hours of learning fun.

The National Zoo sponsors an entire page of fascinating web cams so students can study animal behaviors and habitats virtually.

The American Museum of Natural History has an entire website, "Ology" dedicated to the great "ologies" such as paleontology, astronomy, marine biology, and more.

Starfall.com  A great site for K-2 students to practice reading skills.

HOMEWORK HELP

Free Online Language Courses These sites contain lessons to help learn one language from another. The courses vary in quality and the quantity of material presented.

BrainPop has great video and Flash animations that help students explore many fields of study.

ipl2 for Kids  Kids can submit a question (barring medical, legal, tax, and personal opinion) to a volunteer librarian and receive a well-researched answer back within about a week.

FactMonster  The place to go for fun facts and homework help. It's brought to you by educational professionals

Math Homework Helper   Homework Helper will allow you to input a problem and your answer. It will then figure out if your solution is correct.

 

 

REFERENCE WEBSITES

Your Dictionary   A dictionary that provides a variety of stimulating educational experiences are more likely to remain actively engaged in the learning process.
