Brian Markarian, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Hawthorne School District

As the proud Superintendent of the Hawthorne School District, I am committed to ensuring that every student achieves educational excellence and social and emotional well-being.  That is indeed the mission of our school district and it can be achieved when all educational partners, including staff, students, families, and community members, work together toward that goal.

Prior to being appointed Superintendent, I served in a variety of positions within the District over the course of more than twenty years.  These roles afforded me the opportunity to work on five different school campuses and at the District Office.  Before moving to California, I taught in a school district just outside of Boston, Massachusetts.  Prior to entering the field of teaching, I worked in the areas of finance and state government.  I have served as the President of Region 14 of the Association of California School Administrators and had the honor of being named California’s Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year by that organization in 2015. In addition to my work within the District, I have taught educational leadership and resource management courses at both the masters and doctoral levels in higher education programs.

I am married and have two children.  Being an active partner in their education keeps me closely connected to the critical work that we, as a school district and educational community, do for our children.  Serving in the role of Superintendent is truly an honor for me and I am grateful to our Board of Trustees and to the Hawthorne community for trusting me to do so responsibly and effectively.
