Middle School Enrollment Steps for HSD Residents
Attending Your Home Middle School
- Input your address to locate your home school. Use the Locate My School link.
- If your student plans on attending their home school, then no further action is required. Your student will automatically be enrolled in their home school, and you will not need to complete the enrollment form.
Timeline for Open Enrollment

April 26, 2024: Enrollment forms sent to parents/guardians of 5th grade students who reside within the boundaries of the Hawthorne School District.

May 1-31, 2024: Enrollment forms accepted at any elementary school office of Hawthorne School District.

June 7, 2024: Raffle to establish the waiting list.

June 30, 2024: Notification regarding the status of students on the waiting list will be mailed to families.

Mid-August 2024: Approval of enrollment applications begin as classroom space becomes available.

September 27, 2024: Approval of enrollment applications ends.

October 2, 2024: Notification that the enrollment application has expired and that we were unable to grant the request will be mailed to parents/guardians.
Middle School Enrollment Steps for Currently Enrolled Non-HSD Residents
If you are not a resident of Hawthorne and your student currently attends HSD schools on a permit, then you will need to renew the permit to attend middle school during the next academic school year.
- Parents received a letter informing them to renew the permit for the next academic school year.
- August 1-16, 2024: Inter-district (from another school district to the HSD) incoming permits are due.
- Non-HSD residents are not eligible for open enrollment.
New to Hawthorne School District?
Your student is considered a "New" Student for the 2024-25 school year if:
- They were not enrolled in an HSD school during the 2023-24 school year or any year prior.
If your student was previously enrolled in HSD, but not currently attending a school in the Hawthorne School District, your student is not classified as a New Student. Please visit your local school site office and ask for support to complete the enrollment process.
New Student Enrollment Process:
Complete the information on the Request for Enrollment via PowerSchool:
Click here for enrollment for the upcoming school year (2024-25).
After completing the request for enrollment, parents/caretakers will receive two emails, one that informs that the request was received and second, instructions to create a Parent PowerSchool Account.
Once you create a PowerSchool account, you will need to complete and submit the Enrollment Forms in PowerSchool. For assistance, refer to our PowerSchool guide here, or contact an HSD school directly. Click here to view the directory of elementary or middle schools.
