Spelling Bee 2016
On February 17th, the Hawthorne School District held its 10th Annual Spelling Bee for students in grades 4-6 at Hawthorne Middle School. Twenty contestants representing seven elementary schools and three middle schools competed on stage in front of an audience comprised of friends, family, and HSD staff. The students who competed in the district spelling bee were all winners of their classroom spelling bees and also winners or runner-ups in their school spelling bees.
After five rounds, Daniel Avelar, a 6th grader at Bud Carson Middle School, won the competition. Daniel will go on to compete in the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee on March 30th.
